Energy Research Building, University of Leeds

The Energy Research Building brings together under one roof the re-branded Energy Research Institute, the new Centre for Integrated Energy Research, the Energy Technology and Innovation Initiative and the Doctoral Training Centre in Low Carbon Technologies. It will serve as a physical hub for collaboration in energy research and innovation extending far beyond the University of Leeds campus.

It is located in the heart of the main campus, on a restricted site, in the position of two previous  buildings which were demolished as part of the project.

The insitu reinforced concrete structure was designed to accommodate a range of particularly movement sensitive research equipment including a flight simulator, several combustion cells and laser equipment.

The client’s brief specified an innovative building to deliver cutting edge energy research. The building has achieved its challenging low energy consumption targets and a BREEAM excellent rating.
